Latvia has four regions with separate history:
- Vidzeme (Northern Latvia) – famous with its medieval castles in Cesis and Sigulda and its scenery. It is the largest region of Latvia
- Semigallia (Southern Latvia) – famous with its baroque palaces in Rundale and Jelgava and was the centre of Courland Semigallia
- Latgale (Eastern Latvia) – famous with its lakes, Catholic majority and unique Latgallian dialect, as well as its ceramics and Mark Rothko Museum
- Courland (Western Latvia) – famous with its sea views, such cities as Liepaja, Ventspils, Kuldiga with the widest waterfall in the Europe, fishing villages and delicious fish dishes.
